On 7th June took place the ceremony to hand out the awards from the Underwater Image Medes Environment Festival – MIMA 2008. After 5 days of intense activity and different acts linked to this festival, expositions, projections of films in the open air, art fair, talks… finally arrived the expected moment of knowing the names of the winners of the Open of Digital Photography, star contest of this festival.
The first prize, 1300 euros, was for Cesar Bodi (model Federico Moreno) from Barcelona, the second prize, 900euros, was for Daniel Espinach (model Ignasi Ticó) and the third prize, 600 euros, was for the Spaniard Rafael Pariente (model José Sanchez).
The prizes for the On-Line Photography were for Andrey Nekrasov, (Ucraïna) category “Environment”, Javier Gascon (Alacant), Fauna and Nicolas Barraque (France) Illes Medes. They received 250 euros each.
The finalist on the category “Environment” were Andrey Nekrasov and Nicolas Barraque. The finalist on Fauna were Andrey Nekrasov and Carlos Virgili and the finalist “Illes Medes” had been Nicolas Barrque and Dominique Barray. They received 50 euros each.
The first classified on Underwater Video was Danny Van Belle (Bèlgica) with “Les fenetres de la vie”. He received 700 euros . The award from the Jury was given to José Luis Huertas with “Cabo de Palos, aguas de vida”; he received 300 euros and the especial Illes Medes was for Guille Cervera for "illes Medes una visió molt especial" he received 500 euros
Apart from the money prizes, Scubastore, Poseidon, Casco Antiguo, De Profundis and Saga the winners received diving equipment and checks.
MIMA ’08 has placed this Festival in the privilege place among the festivals of Underwater Image after the X Old Underwater Championship 2005 and the change from analogue photography to digital had started quietly in 2006. The organises as well as the participants together with the effort of the technical director of the competition Jaume Minguell have establish the basement that will be consolidated for the future editions.
